SATCHELS & PURSES are some of our most popular items. Nomad artists have created a large variety of styles and patterns, many with traditional themes. There are always new designs. You can choose from here, or you can request a particular picture and bag sizing, and let the artist design a bag for you.
Most are made of hand-woven yak-hair, in various levels of coarseness. There are also some wool bags. They are all entirely handmade, but for a few decorative pieces bought and sewn on.
Many of the themes are members of the "Eight Treasure Painting," and are often seen in households and temples. They are meant to bring blessings and luck by bringing the various qualities the items symbolize. Below, we have given a brief description of the meaning of these symbols, as well as noting their Tibetan names (in italics).
