TIBETAN NOMADS live, to this day, in black tents all over the highgrasslands of Tibetan regions. In most ways, their lives are traditional and extremely different from modern life. They have remained
largely isolated from outside influences, including Western, Chinese, or even Tibetan. Because of this, it is in them that ancient Tibetan ways are most alive.
The Khampa Nomad Arts Cooperative is an association of nomadicspinners, weavers, leatherworkers, designers, and tailors from the Kham region of Eastern Tibet. (Click here to learn more about artists and places.)
It is the only Arts Cooperative in this region, and one of very few Cooperatives in Tibet, rather than India or Nepal. (There are two others, as far as we know.) Associated artists make items in traditional ways.
Our goals:
- To support the continuation of traditional Tibetan nomadic arts and lifestyle.
- To increase monetary income for people living the traditional lifestyle.
- To provide to the outside world a link to learn about, experience, and support Tibetan nomad culture.
- We welcome and hope that you will get involved!
